Legal Services of North Louisiana - Heading north for the summer? The Executive Director of this facility is seeking interns for their locations in Shreveport, Monroe and Natchitoches. This is a full service agency dealing mainly in family law issues and much more. If you are interested in this opportunity, please send your resume and cover letter as soon as possible. Acadiana Legal Services seeking summer interns for their Lafayette, Lake Charles, Opelousas, and Alexandria offices - This is an full-service LSC organization that works mainly in the areas of administrative law, family law, and consumer law. Family Law/Divorce Clinic - …or as some would say the “Two Family Clinic” – The Baton Rouge Bar Association will be conducting a clinic style training session and matching law students with local attorneys working on these pro bono cases. This is a great part-time opportunity for those with busy summer schedules. Please email regarding your interest today.
Succession Files for Pro Bono Project in New Orleans - Assist with fact-finding and pleading writing from here in Baton Rouge. Training session for the summer will be scheduled soon. Email or call us if you are interested as soon as possible.
Volunteer days at the Renaissance Village, FEMA park in Baker - Training will be scheduled a few days prior to a pre-scheduled Thursday and Saturday visits. Topics will vary month to month. We will be keeping all of you posted on the training days. If you are interested in getting involved, but do not have a lot of time, this one day event will be perfect for your busy schedule.
Courtwatching Program - This is the attendance of court on scheduled days of the week where law students simply observe the proceedings and collect data on pre-printed forms. The information will be collected and used by local organizations to improve their training and outreach to the legal community. Let us know if you would like to be included on future communications regarding this project.
Animal Legal Defense Fund - Two students from LSU and two students from Southern University are needed to start Student Chapters at these universities. These students will communicate with the Student Bar Association, develop projects and events to educate your fellow law students and community about animal law, and eventually, act as the catalyst to begin a course at these schools on animal law. Shortess' Shorties - Perform intake services and conduct research on novel legal questions for the Honorable Melvin Shortess. Intake services with Judge Shortess at St. Vincent de Paul is every Wednesday and Thursday from 3pm to 5pm. If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know so we may notify his office.
Baton Rouge Capital Area Conflict Office - This is a special research topic designed specifically for our Pro Bono Legal Corps volunteers. If you are interested in criminal law and would like to hear more about this opportunity, please let us know so we may schedule an appointment with you.
Know Your Rights Campaign - More volunteers are needed for writing legal brochures for the local community on our "Know Your Rights" campaign. Again, please contact us so we may include you on this project.
