Seeks two AmeriCorps Legal Fellows

AmeriCorps Legal Fellows connect law students with underserved clients, increase law student participation in pro bono work, further law student interest in public interest legal careers, match law student volunteers with clients based on student interests and skills and build relationships with community organizations to develop opportunities for students.

Law students gain valuable legal experience and first hand knowledge of how the public interest sector operates and provide invaluable services to underserved communities.

Southern University Law Center

Positions:
Two (2) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana beginning August 2008

Qualifications:

Attorney candidates should be admitted to the Louisiana Bar or awaiting bar exam results. Successful candidates will have:

• A strong commitment to the principle of equal justice
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• An interest in working with law students and volunteer lawyers
• Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks

Supplemental Benefits

In addition to the standard employee benefits package, LBF will also provide:

• Monthly rent stipend for the term of service
• One time allowance of up to $3,500 to help defray costs associated with relocation expenses and/or bar review. At the completion of a successful service term, unused allowance balance will be applied to law school loan repayment.
